How do I get a car dealer license in Texas?

The Department of Motor Vehicles has recently automated the licensing process and cut out all the paperwork. Their new eLicensing system is now a convenient way to complete and submit your licensing application online.
The DMV has released an eLicensing User Guide on their website Department of Motor Vehicles – Dealers to help with any questions you may have. This User Guide will help you determine all information you will need to have your license application approved. You may also download the User Guide here: eLicensing User Guide
Once your application is submitted and being reviewed, you will be able to check your status here: Dealers License Application Status. This will allow you to check the status of your application is and view any messages from the specialist reviewing your application.

For additional dealer information, the Department of Motor Vehicles also offers Dealer Training Seminars around the state year-round.
